Update from our athletic director
March 13, 2020

All –

This evening I met with all spring sport coaches and as many fall and winter head coaches as available.

In light of Gov. Wolf’s announcement to close schools for 10 business days, here is where we stand:

  1. The Seneca Valley School District will be closed March 14 – 29, 2020.

  2. All school activities, events, athletics, and public use of facilities are CANCELLED during this time period.

  3. We will revisit our status in late March.

  4. Coaches are NOT permitted to engage in any sort of formal OR informal coaching activity with their teams on or off our campus.  This applies for all coaches – fall, winter and spring.

    1. This includes any sort of non-athletic “team bonding” stuff.

    2. Captains or team leaders may organize team bonding activities.

    3. Coaches MAY send workouts electronically for student-athletes.

  5. The District is locking down all facilities as of Saturday, March 14, 2020. There will be NO access to buildings, baseball building, field house, fields, etc… until March 30, 2020 at the earliest.  Please stress to your child(ren) they may NOT use District facilities during this closure.

    1. CONCESSION STAND FOOD:  If you have any food you would like to retrieve during this closure, please contact myself or David so we can arrange a pick-up time.

  6. If any of your student-athletes need to return to campus to pick up equipment, please have them communicate this to their respective coach and a plan will be put in place to make this happen.

  7. Outside clubs are not in our jurisdiction.  I have no authority on telling them what they can and cannot do.  Thus, if student-athletes use the facilities/services of their non-SV clubs, that is a family choice.

  8. Pay to Participate: You may field questions from parents about the status of our Pay to Participate program.  At this time, I have no concrete answers – we will wait out this two-week closure.  It is on our radar and once a decision is made regarding our spring sport season I will communicate decisions regarding Pay to Participate.

    1. Please rest assured that we will have protocols in place regarding payment of the Pay to Participate fee.  Once we return to action there will be a grace period to allow families to meet this obligation and we will NOT hold out a student from participating.

  9. Once we return to school and activity, we will certainly have a “grace period” of practices to allow our student-athletes time to return to their sport in a safe manner.

You  may share this information with your respective parent groups.

I may have an update from the WPIAL/PIAA early next week.

Any questions – please ask David or myself.
